Graphic Design is a creative process that conveys a specific message to an audience through the combined use of words, images, and symbols, in order to assemble a visual representation of ideas and convey messages.

The date was first marked in 1995, on the anniversary day of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations. The primary objective of this event is to emphasize the role of communication design in today's society.

On this day, there are several events that honor all the professionals who work in the Design area, and in particular graphic designers. World Graphics Day is packed with professional meetings, design contests and lectures.

In Portugal, there’s ESAD World Graphics Day, an event that brings together great national designers to a design celebration in Matosinhos (at ESAD). Admission is free.
