Web Summit 2016 begins today in Lisbon

Portuguese Capital hosts Europe's largest technology conference

The 2016 Web Summit, a global technology and innovation conference, will take place in Lisbon this year and the next two. Until November 10th, more than 50,000 participants from 166 countries will attend this international event directed to companies and investors.

More than seven thousand CEOs of companies will be present at this event, where 15 000 companies will fight to obtain greater exposure and seduce a thousand investors present. 67 national start-ups will represent Portugal.

The first edition of the Web Summit, in 2009, was attended by only 400 participants. Now, instead of a single conference, the Web Summit is composed of 21 independent conferences and several parallel events taking place during these three days.

The event's growth has led the organizers to choose a new location for its realization. According to Paddy Cosgrave, Irish entrepreneur who co-founded the Web Summit, Lisbon was chosen among several European cities due to infrastructures - the event will take place at MEO Arena - and the transport network within the city.

Among the 677 speakers, will be present the founders and CEOs of the largest technology companies as well as prominent personalities of the sports areas, fashion, and music. Sean RAD, co-founder and chief executive officer of Tinder, Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon.com and Luis Figo, co-founder of Dream Football, are some of the personalities you can hear and see in this edition of Web Summit.

According to Portuguese Minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, during these three days will be injected over EUR 200 million into the local economy.
