Today is Internet Day

Internet Day is celebrated every year on May 17th.

The date was established in 2006 by the UN. On this day, the citizens are invited to reflect on the potentialities and challenges of new technologies in their lives. The internet is such a part of our lives that it is difficult to imagine our day-to-day life without this resource.

The internet has its origin in the Second World War, when there was a goal to create a specific communication channel for US military services. The Internet became part of citizens' lives at the end of the 20th century.

In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web (www) as an information integrator that allows simple and consistent access on different platforms.

Despite the immense potentialities beneficial to users, the hegemony of the internet also brought some dangers. Users are encouraged to adopt safe practices, such as not sharing personal and bank identification data with strangers and using secure passwords for all their accounts.
